Pelhuaz Exquisite Friend of the Week: J By G

I'll try to hold my excitement as I'm obsessed with the tails of these Little Wezens. The name of the artist is Gabrielle and she's the owner of J by G. The first time I saw a Wezen, I thought that it was the cutest thing and became a tail fan.

You see what I mean? Isn't that tail great. I contacted Grabielle and ask her if she wanted to be part of the Pelhuaz Exquisite Friends and she said yes! Yay!

So here's the interview:

Pelhuaz: What's your name?
Gabrielle: Gabby

Pelhuaz: Describe yourself in 5 words.
Gabby: Shy, goofy, nerdy, motherly, creative.

Pelhuaz: If you could sing one song on American Idol or any other TV Show, what would it be?
Gabby: Oh no, I am very shy! I wouldn't sing in front of anyone :D

Pelhuaz: If you were on an island and could only bring 3 things, what would you bring?
Gabby: Kids, Husband and a knife.

Pelhuaz: If we came to your house for dinner, what would you prepare for us?
Gabby: I am not a good cook, I am a better baker. I could make you a mean cake!

Pelhuaz: If you were a Star Trek® [or Star Wars®] character, which one would it be?
Gabby: Why couldn't this be Doctor Who or Harry Potter ? :)

Pelhuaz: What is the last book you read?
Gabby: How I Live Now by Meg Rosoff.

Pelhuaz: Tell us about your Small Business… Why did you decide to open it?
Gabby: Well, I took a lot of art classes in high school so many that I maxed out of Jewelry and Ceramics. I ended up doing independent study for art. I entered a lot of art showed and won some awards and I just loved it so much. I ended up heading in another direction as an adult. However as a single mother with a child with special needs who found it hard to find a job that wanted to work with my schedule I wanted to so something from home that allowed me to still tend to my sons needs and meetings, etc. I started making jewelry and posting pictures online, I had a pretty good interest and opened a FB and an etsy. I went on to take custom orders allowing customers to take part in the process of picking materials while I was the person who put them together. Later I started messing with my love for sculpting and the idea of making my own charms to save money. Then from there the interest in my clay items seemed to outweigh that of my jewelry and to be honest I enjoyed the clay much more.

At that point, I started making larger scale figures that were nightstand friends for childhood fears (afraid of the dark, monster under the bed, etc.) and then of course I added in some here or there when the creative bug bit.

Pelhuaz: What is your favorite item available at J by G? Provide a pic.
Gabby: My Coffee Wezen was just something I thought of out of the blue for the adults and it turned out to be my most popular item. The number of comments I get on them stating "That looks just like me when I wake up" is awesome...

Pelhuaz: What do you wish you had known before you started?
Gabby: I wish I had a better understanding of pricing. I am awful at it I actually feel bad about charging people money I am still not use to someone buying something I have made.
Pelhuaz: When is your Store Anniversary?
Gabby: Aug 12

Pelhuaz: Imagine that I’m planning to open Pelhuaz, and I don’t know a thing about managing a Small Business, what will be your best advice?
Gabby: Always be kind and try to work with customers... Even if it's not something you normally do. You don't always have to be such a stickler in my opinion to the rules, because that one customer that you gave a little for might turn around and be your biggest customer, or they will remember the kindness you showed in doing something you don't normally do and they will spread the word... and word of mouth is a fantastic way to make or break a business.

When finished to transcript the interview, I felt like I was in front of a fighter and a great woman. Someone awesome!

I visited J by G Store and tried to picked 3 of my favorites. It was very difficult as I love all the Wezen's Tails:

The Love Wezen is really adorable.

The Spring Time Wezen and his tail. Yes, I know... "Stop it already with the tail thing!" :D

Of course The Coffee Mug Wezen, I'm deprived from coffee due to my pregnancy, but can't stop to think that this is also me in the morning!
